Opportunity Is Everywhere (If You’re Willing to Do the Work)

Everyday Leaders from Around the World, Change Management, Values

While in Prague, I took a day tour to the Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland National Park, gorgeous by the way. Since we were the last stop on the pickup route, I ended up sitting in the front seat next to the guide for the entire ride. How lucky🍀

He leads tours to the park nearly every day—van packed full of visitors—on top of running multiple small businesses in Prague. He told me COVID taught him not to put all his eggs in one basket, and now he never relies on just one source of income.

I asked him about his life, and he opened up easily. Told me about his family, the companies he’s building, and the way he approaches his days. Every morning, he listens to podcasts about positive mental attitude, leadership, and how to grow a business. Every night, he writes out his goals and a fresh to-do list.

When I asked if he’d ever been to the U.S., he told me about working in Florida. A friend from Prague had started a pool-cleaning business that grew quickly and needed help. So, he flew over, jumped in, and got to work.

When I asked what he thought of the experience, he said something I’ll never forget:

“There are endless opportunities in the U.S. to work and make money—if you are willing.

That was the part that stuck with me. If you are willing.

Not if the job is glamorous. Not if it’s handed to you. Just—are you willing to do the work?

He said he didn’t understand why so many people in the U.S. weren’t. “In Prague,” he said, “people would be thankful for any type of opportunity.

That mindset is a separator.
Some people look at work and see effort.
Others look at the same thing and see possibility.

He’s in that second group.
He doesn’t wait for ideal timing. He just moves.

Start where you are. Do what’s in front of you. That’s momentum.
What is your next step to take?
